2024 will be here before you know it. While you’re making your New Year’s resolutions, don’t forget about the things you are already doing right! Are you taking all of your PTO hours? If not, you’re leaving one of your biggest benefits on the table. Everyone needs to rest and recharge; you can’t be any good for your work team if you’re drained. Taking work home with you creates stress. When you’re away from work, whether for the night or for a week, unplug. Focus on rest, relaxation, and spending time with loved ones, not on what’s happening back at your work site.
Maintaining Positive Relationships with Teammates
No one is an island, and this is especially true at work. As we head into the new year, take some time to restrengthen your bonds with your work family. They’re the only ones who truly understand what your job is like, and they’re the ones you have to collaborate with to get things done.
Keeping up Your Attendance Record
You’re most likely to get ahead at work if your boss knows they can count on you. A strong attendance record, including being on time daily, is one of the biggest positive work-related habits you can develop. If you do need to be late or miss work, be sure to call as soon as possible. Create a reliable, easy to follow pre-work routine that ensures you arrive on time, enthusiastic, and relaxed.
Listening to Constructive Feedback
No one is perfect, and you will make mistakes at work. That’s not nearly as important as how you handle them. And sometimes you’re not even doing anything wrong, exactly, but you’re doing things differently than how your boss would like them handled. Keep an open mind when you receive constructive feedback. Make an action plan for changing your behavior, and work hard to follow it. Also, take the initiative to continue your education and develop your skill set – especially soft skills.
Both physical organization (paper files, materials, or inventory) and virtual organization (email, virtual files, or databases) are critical to any work environment. Make a year-end assessment to ensure that everything is as it should be. Set aside some time to get rid of clutter, and you’ll be ahead of the game in 2024.
