- Temp or temporary employment is when person works on assignments that are temporary in nature…. meaning the work, job, or assignment may only last a specific period of time – 2 week, 9 months, 3 years, etc. Most temp agencies have jobs across multiple shifts, multiple locations and generally provide high for the work they do.
- Permanent or direct hire employment is when the temp agency is hired to find someone with specific skills to fill a position in the client company’s organization. The temp or employment agency searches (that’s where “executive search”comes from) and finds people who would be interested in the job then arranges interviews. The employee is a “direct hire” of the company.
- A combination of the two employment types above is temp-to-perm employment. Also called temp-to-hire, temp to perm works well for both the employee and client – both get to try each other out.This is where the client asks the employment agency to find someone for a specific position, has them work temp for a while during a trial period, then hires the employee onto the client’s payroll if they pass the trial period.
