Your team works hard for you each and every day. If you don’t let your employees know how much you value them, you’re at risk for demoralization, burnout, and ultimately high turnover. Here are just a few quick and easy employee appreciation ideas to let your staff members know that they are non-disposable.
Team Lunches
Could you afford to shut down for an hour every month, or even just once per quarter? Team lunches, whether catered on-site or hosted at a nearby restaurant, are a valuable way to bond with your employees. If shutting down during the day simply isn’t an option, you can get many of the same benefits from having catered food sent to the break room. Just make sure you have adequate refrigeration and that your workers have plenty of breaks to enjoy the feast.
Career Development
One of the biggest ways to convince your employees that you don’t think of them as disposable is to invest in their futures. Mentorships, cross-training, and job shadowing are relatively easy for nearly any company to implement. Another option is to pay for off-site certifications in relevant skill areas.
Public Praise
Everyone enjoys being praised for their hard work. Start an Employee of the Month program. Hand out small reward cards whenever you catch someone going above and beyond, and then use them as raffle tickets for monthly prizes. Send out a weekly email that calls out employee successes. Exactly what you do doesn’t matter, as long as team members get that moment of recognition in front of their coworkers. Just be careful not to play favorites. Go out of your way to include your quieter employees, who may sometimes be overlooked.
Well-Being Initiatives
The past several years haven’t been easy for anyone. Show your employees appreciation with some new well-being initiatives. Consider offering on-site yoga classes or massages. Provide an extra “just because” vacation. Or expand your mental health benefits. Whatever you do, make sure it’s well advertised and available to everyone on staff, regardless of the hours they work.
