How to Dress for a Warehouse Job Interview

Warehouse work is typically done in fairly casual clothing. You’re working hard and moving around all day after all, so it only makes sense to be comfortable. But you shouldn’t arrive for your interview in the clothes you would typically work in. It’s important to be prepared and make a good first impression, and let your potential future employer know you’re serious about the role.

Here’s how to dress for a warehouse job interview.

Dos

Do these simple things for every interview.

  • Dress one level up from work attire. You don’t need to show up in a three-piece suit. But you can show your commitment to excellence by choosing a button-down shirt with nice pants or a skirt. Wear dress shoes rather than sneakers.
  • Arrive clean and polished. Make sure your clothes are free from rips, tears, or stains. Tuck in your shirt. Get your hair cut if needed, trim your nails, and wear deodorant.
  • Try on your outfit. If you haven’t worn your interview clothes in a while, try them on before the big day. Make sure everything fits well, allowing you freedom of movement without appearing baggy.

Don’ts

Don’t make any of these mistakes!

  • Don’t wear a hat. You may be able to wear a hat to work (ask first!) but it’s never appropriate at a warehouse job interview or in a light industrial setting. It will clash with your clothes and can even be seen as a sign of disrespect.
  • Don’t overdo it. You want to look professional, not flashy or pretentious. Skip the designer labels, wild colors, and outrageous clothing cuts. Opt for simple, classic styles.
  • Don’t focus on your clothes. Your outfit should be comfortable and easy to wear. Clothes that are tight or scratchy will distract you during your interview. And if you’re pulling at your clothes, your interviewer could become distracted as well.

You don’t have to wear anything specific to a warehouse job interview. Just make sure that your clothes are clean, comfortable, well-fitted, and are one step up from what you would wear to work. Relax, follow these simple tips, and you are sure to make a great first impression.
